Steve recently went to England...flew in and out of Edinburgh, Scotland. He visited Durham, York, Edinburgh, and Sunderland....a whirlwind of sight-seeing and watching our elder son Mathias, a second year member of Birmingham Royal Ballet. Mathias is dancing the second male principal role in Swan Lake....okay, he's in the sixth cast...but he got to perform and will be doing so again on the evening of April 2 in Manchester. (Casting is listed here.) Steve said that we'd just have to frame a bunch more pictures because I had to go too! Steve is a real "wiz" on the airline websites. I'm leaving here on March 31st. I'm planning day trips to York and Chester. I return the following Sunday.
So....any other suggestions...great places for fibers? Anyone live anywhere near these places? Want to meet?
(For those who'd like to see Mathias dancing....here his Corsaire variation performed in Varna at the IBC...International Ballet Competition...during the summer of 2006. He won the Junior Gold medal.)
Hi
ReplyDeleteJust read about your visit to England. A very short and tight visit. I am presuming that you will be flying in to Manchester and going to see your son's performance.
The best place for fibres and fabrics is Bradford which is about midway between York and Chester but a very built up area and slow to get around. My favourite place is Texere Mill - I buy lots of undyed yarns and fibres from them - they have an old mill in Bradford. See their web site www.texereyarns.co.uk. You can wander and rummage around 2 floors . There are also lots of Asian fabric shops in Bradford with fabulous fabrics. Bombay stores is one - my favourite.
I hope this is of some help to you.
Cheers

Beautiful performance, thanks so much for sharing it with me.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip to England.
Wow, I'm so glad you get to see your son dance! And I hope you find a lot of great fibers, and bloggers to meet up with. Post photos!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip to the UK and enjoy your sons performance. You must be very proud of him :) Hope you get time for some great shopping too.
ReplyDeleteWish I lived up north, but no, as you know, I don't. Too bad. Make sure you visit York Minster (the Cathedral) if you have time and haven't done so before - I understand it's fabulous. xx Kate
ReplyDeleteWow, He is so good ! hope you have a great time over here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a graceful dancer-you must be so proud.
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived in the north of England-but am in the south. I definitely endorse a trip to York Minster-it's unbelievably awe inspiring-in a good way. If you decide to come south to Bath-of Jane Austen fame-let me know!
