Found Object Tornado II

Found Object Tornado II. Custom framed 40" x 40".  Found objects hand-stitched to a section of a vintage quilt.  Too many objects to list!  Click on any image to enlarge.)

I really didn't think I'd stitch another tornado but my stash of unique things that simply don't work for a Found Object Mandala grew too large.  (Click HERE to see the blog post written about the first tornado which now has a permanent home!)  Plus, I knew this one would be very different.  I wanted the landscape not to be flat.

I also knew that the first tornado was heavily influenced that the underlying quilt which was much more tattered than the one I planned for the second tornado.  In the image above, I've stapled a very finely hand-stitched (but stained) quilt to a stretcher bar and pinned down only one piece of blue netting to define the area for the tornado.

I also knew that I would be spending hours upon hours stitching "rain" in the areas not covered by found objects ... and that I wanted to completely saturate the tornado from top to bottom with found objects.  So ... this one is completely different even though it is also a tornado!

While I didn't stitch "rain", I did spend hours upon hours stitching down all sorts of objects.  At one time or the other, Ernie and Minnie, our two cats, assisted.  The photo above was taken while stitching in my sanctuary studio.

Earlier today, I finished the framing and leaned the piece against the small church pew for its photo session.  I'm quite please with this piece.  Below are detail images!

This is so beautiful. You can "feel" the motion of the tornado. Congratulations on another stunning piece.
