More pieces for the Wall of Ancestors

(Above:  Like Mother, Like Daughter.  The Wall of Ancestors Series. Found vintage photo with clipped letter collaged text on hand marbled mat board.  Framed:  10 1/2" x 12".  CLICK ON ANY IMAGE IN THIS BLOG POST TO ENLARGE.)

There wasn't time to start anything "major" between my return from the ACC Baltimore Show and the Germantown Craft Show in Philadelphia and tomorrow's departure to teach at Focus on Fibers at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida.  Yet, I simply can't NOT work!  Especially not over the weekend.  (Okay ... most of the weekend was spent packing for the workshop ... but I've taught this plenty of times.  I know what I'm doing ... I just had to do something creative too!)

So ... I added to my Wall of Ancestors Series.  I'm excited about this series because it will be on view at Gallery 80808/Vista Studios during the 23rd annual Artista Vista art crawl here in Columbia.  The "big night" is on Thursday, April 24th with a reception from 5 - 9.  The exhibit features all the artists with studio space at Gallery 80808/Vista Studios.  The group show is called Say Something.  Well, my Wall of Ancestors certainly "says something".  I envision my wall hung floor to ceiling with these framed, anonymous photos ... each with a collage phrase addressing some notion of a time and life from the past.

Say Something will run from April 24 - May 6, 2014.  I'm not sure how many pictures I need to fill the wall.  It obviously depends on the amount of space I leave between them.  All I really know is "more is better".  It will give me more options for hanging.  Thus, I'm enjoying making more pieces.

I've got about thirty or so other pieces already finished.  They were made for I Am Not Invisible, my solo show last November - December at the Tapps Art Center.  The first group of framed pieces can be found HERE (and scroll down.)  The second group of framed pieces can be found HERE .  At the Tapps Art Center, the pieces flanked my giant The Grid of Photos.  That arrangement can be seen HERE (and scroll down.) Ever since that show opened, I'd wished I'd made more pieces.  This is my chance.  I'll likely be making more in the weeks to come.

I'm hoping to blog at least once from the Atlantic Center for the Arts ... especially images from the workshop I'm teaching.  Hopefully, this will be a productive time.  The rest of this blog post is simply images and descriptions of the other pieces made for The Wall of Ancestors.  Enjoy!

What treasures! I have to wonder on how many of these you "hit the nail on the head" with your captions....love the classroom where "anything seemed possible"!

You captured the essence of these pictures with your captions. It makes me wonder how someone would caption some of the pictures of me. Very thought provoking. These "forgotten" people live on through you! Very neat. I also wonder, like Mosaic Magpie, how many you captioned perfectly!
