Mandala CCVIII and off to Venice!

(Above:  Mandala CCVIII. Custom framed:  19 1/2" x 19 1/2".  Found objects hand-stitched to a section of a vintage quilt.  Objects include:  Toy Disney characters; twelve, yellow rubber ducks; vintage yogurt and homogenized milk cardboard lid discs; cafe curtain hangers; a Tropicana orange juice lid; four, aluminum hair curl clips; lime green can tabs; assorted buttons and beads.  Click on either image to enlarge.)

On the afternoon when I lay out these found objects, I also designed another Found Object Mandala.  I finished stitching that one too ... but haven't gotten around to mounting and framing it.  It will have to wait for two weeks.  Why?  Well, Steve and I finally cashed in frequent flier miles that were refunded after a pandemic canceled European trip.  Tomorrow, we are flying to Venice!

We aren't staying in Venice proper (which might be a "good thing" as this weekend is a "super moon" bringing higher than average tides that could flood San Marco square).  We will be there for two days, visiting the Peggy Guggenheim Collection where our new, young friend is in the midst of a Guggenheim Fellowship.  Otherwise, we will be in Padua and roaming the countryside in a little rental car.  This should be another adventure and I promise to blog about it upon our return!

In the meantime, I've also finished two more hand-stitched In Box pieces and have started a unique tidal wave of gray buttons on a section of an antique coverlet.
